Our Story

NYC Bagel Tours, part of BagelUp, is dedicated to promoting the culture and history behind New York's iconic bagel. Our mission is to share the stories of the people and communities that have made the bagel a staple New York cuisine.

BagelUp was born out of a shocking realization in 2017: in a city full of experiences for any food imaginable, none existed for an iconic New York food - the bagel. Struck by this "hole in the market," founder Sam Silverman envisioned a platform to celebrate not just the bagel itself, but the vibrant community around it. Thus, BagelUp was born.

BagelUp has grown into a diverse collection of bagel-focused experiences. Through NYC Bagel Tours, we guide locals and visitors alike to the city's best bagels, uncovering hidden gems and local favorites while exploring the history of this food. Our Artisan Hands-on Bagel Baking Classes offer a chance for bakers of all skill levels to learn and refine the art of bagel making.

Our flagship event, the annual New York BagelFest, has become the premiere trade and consumer show for the bagel industry, attracting thousands of bagel enthusiasts and foodies from around the world, and helping launch new bagel brands like PopUp Bagels.

At the heart of NYC Bagel Tours is our dedicated team. Sam Silverman, recognized as New York's "Bagel Ambassador" and one of Brooklyn's 50 Most Fascinating People of 2023 by Brooklyn Magazine, leads the team alongside award-winning baker Reva Castillenti and master storytellers Aidan Everly and Xander Johnson. Each brings a unique flavor to the experience, combining expertise, enthusiasm, and a deep love for New York's bagel culture.
